RAISING AWARENESS OF DIFFUSE INTRINSIC PONTINE GLIOMA

I raised the issue of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) with the Leader of the House. This is the second most common type of primary high-grade brain tumour in children which affects around 40 children each year in the UK. Only 10% of children who are diagnosed with this condition last longer than two years after diagnosis, and prognosis has not improved in the past 40 years. I called on the UK Government to increase funding for research into this condition, to further improve and enhance recognition and treatment of this devastating illness as we approach DIPG Awareness Day on 17 May.
