TORIES MUST STOP PUNISHING THE POOR TO FUND TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH

I asked whether the Chancellor should take inspiration from Scotland’s progressive Finance Minister, Derek McKay, who has ensured that 55% of Scots will pay lower income tax than they would pay if they lived in England. With this progressive plan, the Scottish Government is able to ensure there is more money available to protect vital public services like our NHS, schools, and Police Scotland, whilst also ensuring the poorest pay less tax.

Liz Truss responded in typical Tory fashion, attacking any attempt to make taxation more progressive, while she defends her own Government’s record which is to cut taxes for the wealthiest in society whilst punishing the poor through harsh welfare cuts, while public services are pushed to the brink.
