THE SUN – POINT OF ORDER RAISED IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS
Today I raised a Point of Order in the Commons about the untrue suggestion by the Scottish Sun newspaper reporter Chris Musson that I was asleep – an article the veracity of which he made no attempt to establish. The footage in the House of Commons at the time shows clearly that I was not asleep and yet no apology has been forthcoming, indeed the article has been reposted on the Sun’s social media platforms and continues to attract abusive comments towards me.
This irresponsible reporting in such a febrile political atmosphere is extremely irresponsible and has unleashed an outpouring of hatred and abuse against me.
This misrepresentation of any politician is an attack on all politicians, the motives for which can only be guessed at.
Whilst the Speaker cut my remarks short in this Point of Order, the advice he gives is extremely helpful and which I will be pursuing.
