TORY GOVERNMENT INCREASING PENSIONER POVERTY

I again raised the issue of the UK Government’s planned changes to Pension Credit with the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. With Pensioner Poverty already increasing under the UK Government’s watch, up by 100,000, their planned changes will cut thousands of pounds a year to mixed-age couples in receipt of Pension Credit, by forcing them to claim Universal Credit.

I asked the Secretary of State to give Parliament a vote on this planned change, and asked that she explain why this Government continues to attack and abandon older people, not least women born in the 1950s.

The Secretary of State’s response was disappointing to say the least, choosing to sell the mythical benefits of Universal Credit, which is causing significant hardship and difficulty to many of my constituents.
