UK GOVERNMENT CONTINUES TO ACT ILLEGALLY OVER WIDOWED PARENTS ALLOWANCE FOR UNMARRIED COUPLES
I raised the issue of Widowed Parents Allowance for unmarried couples in Westminster since it has now been seven months since the Supreme Court ruled that since the purpose of this allowance is to diminish the financial loss to families with children in the event of the death of a partner, to deny the allowance to unmarried couples is unlawful.
This benefit is important in supporting families during very difficult circumstances, and I have been contacted by constituents who have been affected by this cruel discrimination against unmarried couples. I urged the Government to act to implement the ruling of the Supreme Court as soon as possible and will continue to pressure them until this is done so that bereaved children and parents do not suffer unnecessary hardship.
