LEADER OF THE HOUSE REFUSES TO CONDEMN PRIME MINISTER’S INFLAMMATORY SPEECH

I was appalled to hear Theresa May’s speech yesterday, where she blamed MPs for the Brexit impasse, and accepted no personal responsibility for the crisis facing the country, a crisis of her own making. The Prime Minister claimed to be on the side of the people of the United Kingdom, however it is clear that she does not include those who voted remain – such as the majority of people in Scotland – those Europeans living and working in the UK, and those of us across the political spectrum who are dissatisfied with her deal.

I asked the Leader of the House whether she thinks it is healthy or wise for the Prime Minister to pit Parliament against the people, reject any notion of personal responsibility, and ignore the genuine concerns about her deal, and Brexit in general, held across the house and across the UK. I was disappointed to hear that she refused to condemn the Prime Minister’s speech, and instead tried to sell the already roundly rejected deal.
