I was delighted to attend the Battle’s Over event in Beith last night in Beith Community Centre to commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One, with Kenneth Gibson MSP and Cllr Anthea Dickson.
The Garnock Valley Pipes & Drums provided lovely music throughout the event.
The evening began with a roll call of all the men from Beith & District who left to fight in this war and, sadly, did not return.
Then we assembled outside for the Last Post and the lighting of the beacon.
1000 Beacons of Light were lit at 7pm on 11th November 2018 throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories - a century after the guns fell silent.
This moving ceremony was very well attended and was a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives to serve their country.
