DEBATE ON WASPI WOMEN
Today I participated in the debate on WASPI women - brought forward by the SNP. The attitude on the Government benches was shameful. Some Tories defending WASPI women being offered apprenticeships whilst others indicated it would help ease the hardship of WASPI women by allowing them to “draw down” their bus passes! Other Tory MPs – including those who signed the pledge to support the WASPI women during the election campaign – spoke warm words of support for WASPI women but then abstained on the motion calling for transitional measures for these women. This level of misunderstanding and hypocrisy over the fact that these women have been placed in genuine financial hardship is arrogant and breathtaking.
