DWP ANSWERS ONLY SIX WASPI COMPLAINTS, IGNORING PLIGHT OF THOUSANDS MORE

New Freedom of Information (FOI) figures reveal that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has received thousands of complaints relating to the WASPI (Women against state pension inequality) campaign, yet only six “WASPI investigations” have actually been seen through to completion.

Despite the DWP having set up a dedicated complaints team it has let down and left without answers, thousands of women who were robbed of their expected pension due to unfair changes to their pensionable age.

This week’s UK budget saw the plight of 3.5 million WASPI women born in the 1950s ignored once again.

Commenting Patricia Gibson MP said:

“With thousands of complaints flooding into the DWP from women who have been robbed of their state pension, it is astonishing that only six have been given the courtesy of a response.

“This strikes at the heart of the sheer incompetence of this Tory government. Their dedicated complaints service is a complete sham and it isn’t delivering for WASPI women, who deserve justice and fairness when it comes to their pensions.

“Prime Minister Theresa May managed to find a billion pounds for the DUP, so she could cling on to power and an extra £3 billion this week to dig her way out of the Brexit muddle. Yet Mrs May can’t find a single penny to give women the pensions that they are due.

“Not only has the Prime Minister failed to live up to her pledge to tackle the burning injustices in society, Mrs May is actually aggravating these injustices. Despite Tory MPs from Scotland pledging support to WASPI women during the election campaign, since coming to office, they have been absent on this issue.

“The Tories must act now to right an obvious wrong, and provide a decent transitional arrangement for WASPI women.”
