OFFICIAL OPENING OF LARGS COMMUNITY VIKING GARDEN

On Saturday I was privileged and delighted to be asked to officially open Largs Community Viking Garden by Largs Organic Growers (LOG).

LOG is a group of dedicated community volunteers who give of their time to develop a beautiful garden adjacent to Largs railway station. Given Largs' proud history of being the site of Scotland's victory over the Vikings in 1263, the volunteers had a vision of installing a replica longship in the garden with the help, hard work and dedication of Scottish Maritime Museum, Irvine, North Ayrshire

Irvine's Maritime Museum apprentices who built the ship and support from a host of funders big and small, meant that LOG was able to bring their vision to fruition.

The longship and the organic garden will enhance, from the start, the visitor experience to Largs in a very positive way.
