SMART METERS DEBATE

This week in Westminster I spoke in the Smart Meters Bill debate .

It is very important that any rollout of Smart Meters that maximising consumer and environmental protection lie at the heart of any strategy to do so.

However, whilst this technology may ultimately help consumers to have more control over and information about how much energy they use, it is important that it is made clear that these meters are not free - consumers pay for them through their energy bills.

Also we need to be absolutely assured that consumers private data is securely protected.
