CREATING A NATIONAL MANUFACTURING INSTITUTE FOR SCOTLAND

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon MSP has revealed plans to develop a £9 million specialist facility that will develop new manufacturing processes to be used in sectors including aerospace and the car industry. It is the first stage of the SNP Government's bid to create a National Manufacturing Institute for Scotland.

The new site will be operated by the University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) at Inchinnan, Renfrewshire. Funding comes from the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise and the AFRC.

Said Patricia Gibson:

"Manufacturing remains crucial to the Scottish economy.

"To ensure a robust future for Scottish manufacturing, innovation and competitiveness are vital.

"This new initiative will help to deliver that."
