General Election 2017

GENERAL ELECTON 2017 Finally after the dramatic events of last night I have the opportunity to post some of the thoughts I gave voice to last night after North Ayrshire & Arran's result was announced. I wish to say a huge thank you to the wonderful team of activists across this entire constituency who delivered leaflets, chapped doors, engaged with voters on street stalls, acted as polling agents and adorned their houses with SNP merchandise. To all of you goes my deepest thanks and appreciation. No candidate can win a seat by themselves - it takes a hard working and dedicated team and I doubt there is a better team than that in North Ayrshire & Arran. This victory belongs to all of us. I also want to thank my Election Agent, Alan Dickson, who worked tirelessly throughout this entire campaign - enduring long hours and all the challenges that campaigns inevitably bring. I also want to express my sincere and heartfelt thanks to the good people of North Ayrshire & Arran who have once again placed their trust in me to represent them at Westminster. I will not let you down. I will continue to be a hardworking, visible and accessible MP, representing all of those who live in this constituency, regardless of how they voted in this election. Whilst many of us are deeply disappointed that the SNP lost seats last night, and some valued colleagues and friends, it is important to remember that the SNP still won the election in Scotland - 35 seats out of 59. The other parties in Scotland chose to make this election about persuading the Scottish people to reject the SNP. In this they clearly failed. Now more than ever, as the Brexit negotiations begin, we in the SNP will continue to ensure that Scotland's voice is heard and that we continue to stand up for Scotland.
