Concern Over Parliamentary Petitions

CONCERN OVER PARLIAMENTARY PETITIONS

On 23 March, during Business Questions, Patricia raised concerns with the Leader of the House about reports on social media of people boasting of signing individual UK Parliamentary Petitions thousands of times.

These petitions can influence what issues MPs debate in Parliament and are often used as a measure of public opinion. Therefore abuses of these petitions such as multiple signing by one individual or people signing them who are not eligible to vote in the UK, must be taken extremely seriously. The public must have confidence in the integrity of these petitions.
