SNP Scottish Government's Attainment Challenge in North Ayrshire

I was delighted on Monday last, to attend the official launch of the Professional Learning Academy (PLA) with Depute First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education, John Swinney MSP. The aim of the Academy, located in Auchenharvie Academy in Stevenston, is to help close the attainment gap, funded by the Scottish Government via the National Attainment Challenge. The £750m Attainment Scotland Fund is a targeted initiative focused on supporting pupils in the local authorities of Scotland with the highest concentrations of deprivation.

North Ayrshire Council was allocated this funding by the SNP Scottish Government’s National Attainment Challenge. This funding will drive transformational change and has identified 5 key areas of work. This project, the creation of a Professional Learning Academy, is one of these key areas.

The PLA has an enthusiastic group of skilled practitioners who can effectively lead and support teachers and practitioners in developing enquiring and coherent approaches across learning. The distinct approach will ensure that continuous improvement in learning and teaching with improved outcomes for learners lie at the heart of this initiative.
