I was delighted to attend the launch of Poppyscotland Appeal 2016 in Dover House.
The Scottish Poppy Appeal is Poppyscotland's largest fundraising campaign, which takes place annually in the lead up to Remembrance Sunday in November. Five million poppies are distributed across Scotland with an army of volunteers ensuring that the poppies and tins are displayed in shops, businesses and schools. As well as street collections there is a host of activity to raise as much money as possible. Money raised is used to support the Armed Services community living in Scotland.
I was also delighted to show my support the Royal British Legion's "Count Them In" campaign which seeks to have questions added to the 2021 census to improve our understanding of what the needs of the Armed Forces Community might be. Despite an estimated 1 in 10 of the UK population being members of the Armed Forces community there is very limited information about where they are or what support they might need.
