I was recently invited to a coffee morning in Ardrossan Library by community activist Suzanne Fernando. Suzanne works tirelessly to raise awareness and understanding of autism and these coffee mornings allows those living with autism to meet, chat, swap stories and support each other.
This was in advance of the National Autistic Society's "Too Much Information" campaign, launched in Westminster, which seeks to challenge the myths, misconceptions and stereotypes that make autistic people feel so isolated and make society feel so unwelcoming. It really is time to bring about a lasting change in the public's understanding of autism. Folk like Suzanne Fernando in our communities will help us do just that!
